Papa's Buzzbaits

I have been using Papa's Buzzbaits for a little over a month now. This buzzbait has a unique shape to it. It is not shaped like normal buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. The line tie, the blade and hook are inline with just 2 slight bends between the blade and the lead head.

While using this buzzbait, I never had trouble with it collecting weeds on the head of the lure. With the lead head being inside the circle of the blade spinning around, the weeds could not collect on the lead head part of the buzz bait. The blade would move the weeds so that they did not make contact with the lead head nor the hook.

When I use a spinnerbait or a buzzbait I always use a trailer hook. With the blade where it is on this buzzbait, I caught just about every Bass on the main hook of the buzzbait. I still used a trailer hook on this buzzbait, but it was just for insurance against an occasional short strike.

As Mark mentions on his web site, http://home.earthlink.net/~papasbaits, Since this is a reaction bait, it's not necessary to paint the head. I believe on a buzzbait that the Bass are striking at the blades of the bait. With this buzzbait, if they strike at the blades, they are going to get caught by the hook that is right behind the blade. On other buzzbaits, the hook is below and behind the blade.

This buzzbait seems to be made out of quality materials. You could blow on the blade and it just spins like a top. It was easy to get the blade spinning when you threw it out in the water and start the retrieve. The hook kept it's sharp point and the shaft never bent on the lure. When you get your buzzbait from Papa's, it will not have a skirt. It is just another way that Mark has kept the cost of this buzzbait down. I had plenty of extra skirts, so I would put the skirt color that I wanted to use on the buzzbait.

I was really impressed with the design and how this buzzbait worked. I like the way this buzzbait worked so much that I don't plan on using the typical design buzzbait anymore.
