Forrest L. Wood receives
Federation Lifetime Achievement Award
The Bass Federation — Aug. 4, 2003
NEW
ORLEANS — Ranger Boats founder Forrest L. Wood was the recipient of
the BASS Federation Lifetime Achievement Award, since the
independent federations started forming in 1972 this is only the
third such award given. Mr. Wood was presented a custom crystal and
burl wood trophy by the B.A.S.S. Federation Presidents, before a
packed house at the Harrah’s Mansion Ballroom in New Orleans, La.
Friday Aug 2nd while in town for the Citgo Bassmaster
Classic presented by Busch Beer.
Wood, a living legend in the sport
fishing industry, founded Ranger Boats in 1968 and started a
revolution in the bass boat industry that continues to set the
standards in safety, quality, performance, innovation and resale
value even today. Even before he started Ranger Boats, this native
of Arkansas understood the life lesson that you have to put
something in today...to give something back, if there is to be
anything left for tomorrow.
"I am
deeply touched to receive the Federation Lifetime Achievement Award.
I appreciate the hard work and dedication the members across the
nation do to preserve the sport of bass fishing through the many
children's programs as well as extensive conservation efforts. I am
so honored to be chosen as I treasure the years of association with
the state organizations all across this great country. Ranger,
Nina, and I anticipate a bright future, full of projects we can make
happen cooperatively with the Federations." Stated Ranger Boats
Founder, Forrest L. Wood
"When you think about who is
representative of a lifetime of dedicated work towards our common
goals of growing and protecting the sport, for everyone’s benefit,
not just through tournaments, but youth events, conservation and
just doing the right things to preserve this for the future there is
a picture of Forrest Wood.” said Robert Cartlidge spokesperson for
the Federation. "Simply put, he “Gets It”, even when times
were tough over the last 30 years and cuts had to be made Forrest
Wood never cut back on the support for the grassroots anglers, the
backbone of the industry......the federations and the work that they
do. We are very proud to recognize him for that.”
The Federation Lifetime Achievement
awards is not something given out often, it requires a unanimous
vote of all state federation presidents to give it and this is only
the third one in the federations 31 year storied history that it has
been given. Ray Scott and Helen Sevier are the only other two
recipients.
The Bass Federation, Inc. is the
collective group of Individual State and International B.A.S.S.
Federations and the world's strongest, most dedicated grassroots
fishing organization committed to the future of fishing through its
work with youth and conservation. Together with its many partners
such as B.A.S.S. Inc. the federation’s mission is simple....to
support, protect and grow the anglers and the sportfishing industry
through the independent state federations.
