At
this time, there are a lot of males guarding fry and these fish can
be caught on topwater baits on cloudy days or early and late.
Females will move out to the deeper structure and suspend for a
short period of time before they get on the bottom. A lot of females
will sit on stumps in 8 to 10 feet of water. These fish can be
caught pitching soft plastics on these stumps and allowing it to go
all the way to the bottom. Watch for fish chasing shad because this
will give you a clue as to where they are beginning to gang up.
